Why I Ran

My name is Susan Shin Andersen and I have called Montclair home since my husband and I moved here in 2009. We love Montclair for many of the reasons you probably do: proximity to the city and public transportation, arts and cultural offerings; parks; the magnet public school system; and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity. Since moving here, I have taken many opportunities to serve through organizations that provide direct assistance to those in need.

I ran for Councilor-At-Large because I want to preserve and enhance the diversity of our town, and help build a community where everyone feels they can thrive, not just survive. My three most important priorities are Affordability, Wellness and Trust

• Affordability is important because all of our residents deserve to be able to build a life, raise a family, and age in place in Montclair. 
• Wellness is important because our residents — regardless of age, background, life situation, or income level — deserve to be safe and feel they are looked after, and that they are not alone. 
• Trust in our government is important because without it, Montclair can’t take effective and decisive action.

I will be someone who will listen and respond, advocate, lead with openness, empathy, and kindness, and make thoughtful, informed decisions based on data, research, and resident input.
